PVFD saves Sunshine Station from major damage

PHILIPSBURG - Now that the staff has had a chance to look over the damage caused by Friday morning's fire at the Sunshine Station, things aren't nearly as bad as they originally seemed.
Bar Manager Shannon Heimark told the Flint Creek Courier that the initial estimation of damages made by firefighters after the incident were not exactly accurate.
"We had some minimal structural damage to the kitchen area, but the dining room is in good shape," said Heimark Friday afternoon. "We didn't get it real bad due to the very quick response of the Philipsburg Volunteer Fire Department (PVFD). They got here in a just a few minutes and really did a great job."
The blaze was called in at approximately 9 a.m. Friday morning, with the local fire department rolling multiple trucks and firemen to the scene.
The building did lose power for several hours, but by 2:30 p.m. the bar, store and gas pumps were back in working order.
Heimark indicated that this was a bad weekend for the restaurant to be down, but that the staff was working on a way to help serve the several thousand expected customers that would be coming in for Saturday's 9th Annual Philipsburg Rotary Concert.
