Lady Trojans sweep Sheridan in home opener
DRUMMOND – It wasn’t always easy, but it was a good first effort for the new look Drummond Lady Trojans as they beat the visiting Sheridan Panthers in three straight, 25-9-, 25-17, 25-17.
While the visiting Panthers aren’t exactly monsters at the net, they did give the Lady Trojans a great way to get a good win and feel out some areas where they might need work. One area they found in Game 3 was when senior Donna Seekel went down with what appeared to be a high ankle sprain.
“We've not practiced or played with that exact rotation,” said Drummond Head Coach Shona Bradshaw. “We’ve played without her, but that was a different rotation.”
Gracie Weaver stepped in when Seekel went down and helped the Lady Trojans pull out the finale game and win the match.
“I think we’re in the top four or five (in our district) and by the end of the year be in the top three,” said an optimistic Bradshaw. “We can beat anybody on a given day as long as we’re all on the same page.”
Sophomore Sydney Phillips led the team in kills (9) and blocks (5), Hannah Bradshaw was right behind her with six and two, respectively. Hailey Swarengen rounded out the stats at the net with five kills and three blocks.
Rylee Hilmo dished out 30 assists while Sara Keilley added 21, and those two swapped spots in digs with Keilley getting 4 and Hilmo 3. Keilley also had eight service aces and Seekel added seven before going
Drummond will get a chance to prove its mettle Friday when they travel to Ennis to take on the Lady Mustangs.
