Lady Trojans earn hard-fought victory from White Sulphur
DRUMMOND – As teams approach the midpoint of the season, some sink from the forefront while others start rising to the top.
Tuesday night, Drummond started its climb.
The Lady Trojans claimed a 3-1 win over the visiting Hornets of White Sulphur, 25-1, 23-25, 25-19, 25-22.
“We worked on communication, so that did a lot better,” said Drummond Head Coach Shona Bradshaw. “We worked on passing and playing as a team.”
The added work was on display throughout the night as the Lady Trojans dug ball after ball either out of the net or off the floor. No matter where the Hornets put it, it seemed like Drummond found a way to get to it. That style of play seemed to almost frustrate White Sulphur to the point of exasperation.
Throughout the match each team would go on a run, only to have the other battle back. But even in its one loss, the Lady Trojans found a way to keep it close. In its three wins Drummond then used that tying rally to jump ahead and claim the win.
Sophomore Hannah Bradshaw pulled off a double-double, collecting 10 kills and 10 service aces on the night. She almost made it a triple-double with eight digs on defense.
Sara Kielley and Sydney Phillips had five kills each and both had 10 digs. Gracie Weaver chipped in another seven digs on defense.
Kielley led in assists with 11 and Rylee Hilmo added seven.
Drummond will get a few days to collect themselves and get ready for their Homecoming match Saturday when they host defending state champion Ennis.
