Granite girls look pretty in pink during win over Drummond
PHILIPSBURG – The Lady Prospectors sported fluorescent pink uniforms in honor of resident Liz Hill. Whether it was the uniforms or the cause, Granite played a solid match and came away with a four-game win over visiting Drummond Tuesday night, 25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 25-14.
In addition to being Senior Night for the Lady Prospectors, the community of Philipsburg made Tuesday night a time to rally around Hill and her fight against breast cancer. While Drummond players and many in attendance wore something pink, the Lady Prospectors sported new uniforms that bright pink with black numbers.
Despite winning each of the first two games, Granite trailed early it both. Drummond would race out to a lead only to have the Lady Prospectors eventually catch and pass them. Game three saw Drummond do the same, but this time they managed to hold off a late Granite charge for the victory.
Game four was nip and tuck until Granite junior Audrey Radtke stepped to the service line and rattled off nine straight points before her service was broke. The streak gave the Lady Prospectors a lead they would never relinquish and eventually the match.
“We were tired,” said Drummond Head Coach Shona Bradshaw of her team having played three games in four days. “We just weren’t rested and it hurt us a little.”
For the Lady Prospectors it seemed be a match where they found the flow and stayed in it. A sentiment confirmed b Granite Head Coach Jennifer Graham.
“It’s just them coming together as a team. It’s all on them,” she said. “
Hannah Bradshaw led all hitters in the match with 10 kills for Drummond. She also added 16 digs and seven service aces as top marks for the visitors. Sara Kielley had 11 assists and tied with Sydney Phillips in blocks with one each.
Amelia Hill was the hitter for the Lady Prospectors with eight and topped the field with six blocks. Other leaders for Granite were Emma Grange with 22 assists, Sierra Metesh with 18 digs and Radtke with five service aces.
Drummond is done playing in the regular season, but Granite has one more home game Wednesday night against Lima. Both teams will then play the waiting game until October 24 for the beginning of District Tournament play at Manhattan Christian. The tournament was extended a day from the 24th to the 26th as both the District 11 and 12 tournaments will both be held at the same facility.
