Pile Burning Begins Southeast and North of Butte
BUTTE — Fire officials from the Butte Ranger District began prescribed fire activities this week which may result in intermittent visible smoke continuing through the end of November.
Firefighters will be burning slash piles in the in the Lime Kiln area south of Butte and Highway 2. They will burn piles under prescribed conditions and monitor the burned piles after ignition to ensure they stay within prescribed boundaries.
Travelers and residents along Roosevelt Drive (Forest Road 84), Blacktail Creek and in the Lime Kiln area may see smoke from these burns, however little impact from the smoke is expected.
In the future pile burning will also occur in the Lowlands area north of Butte and west of Elk Park. For more information regarding these prescribed burns, contact the Butte Ranger District at (406) 494-2147.
