Goff, Grange lead Granite past rival Drummond

PHILIPSBURG – Drummond kept the game close through halftime, but was unable to stop a Lady Prospector team on a roll as Granite won 43-29.

Granite managed a two-point lead at half, using an offense that cut through the lane as the Lady Trojans tried to take away the home team’s outside game.

“We want the girls to be aggressive and have good team speed,” said Lady Prospector Head Coach Brandon Piazolla. “They tried to take some things away on the perimeter but Sarah, Emma and Shelby are good guards and they got to the rim and then the foul line.”

Granite was able to pull away from Drummond in the third when senior Sophia de Santiago went down with an injury. It turned out that de Santiago suffered a concussion during a fall early in the third period, leaving her with just eight points on the night.

“They have a lot of effort,” Drummond Head Coach Nate Bignell said of his team. “That’s a hard thing to coach and they have it. There are some things we gotta fix and do better at to have our season go the way we want it to go.”

Sarah Goff had a game-high 18 for the winning Lady Prospectors, including a pair of three-pointers. Emma Grange also added 10.

Hilmo had eight to tie de Santiago to lead scoring for Drummond.

Both teams will close out play in December this Thursday. The Lady Trojans will hit the road to play at Twin Bridges while the Lady Prospectors will host Harrison-Willow Creek in Philipsburg.
