Drummond teams sweep Harrison-Willow Creak
DRUMMOND – The Wildcats came out hot and tried to stay close, but in the end the Trojans were just too much as they posted a 48-21 win over visiting Harrison-Willow Creek.
“They just came out hot,” said Drummond Head Coach Levi Parsons. “I don’t know if we overlooked them or what. I certainly hope not, because they’re a scrappy team and they should be overlooked. They played really hard.”
When asked if his Trojans were where he wanted them as they make the turn to the postseason, Parsons was optimistic. “We’re getting there. Offensively I’d like to get a little bit better still; there are still some places where we’re a little weak offensively. But our defense is coming along really well.”
While it may not be exactly where Parsons wants it, the Drummond offense was on target enough to hold a 27-14 halftime lead. From there the defense took over, shutting down the Wildcat offense completely in the third period. That 11-0 run put the game out of reach for good and gave the Trojans the win.
Luke Holland led Drummond’s scoring attack with a game-high 16 points, followed closely by Jonah Parke with 14. Rounding out the Trojan scorebook were Wyatt Rigby with eight, Damian Pool with six and Riley Allen with four.
The Trojans will revisit the battle with their county rival Granite January 17 in Drummond. When the two teams met in December, the Prospectors edged the Trojans 41-38.

DRUMMOND – The visiting Wildcats gave the Lady Trojans a battle early, but balanced scoring and finding their rhythm on the fast break gave Drummond a 54-25 win over Harrison-Willow Creek Friday at home.
“In the first half they weren’t connecting” said Drummond Head Coach Nate Bignell of his team’s fast break play. “We want to push the ball. We want to get the other team’s heart beatin’ and get them tired and we usually do a good job of it. We just came out slow and they came out fast.”
While the bulk of the Lady Trojan squad had issues getting in sync, senior Sara Kielley was able to help the locals keep pace by scoring all six of her points in the first period. She led Drummond to a 13-10 first period lead that they were able to increase in the second when they went on a 13-2 run.
In the third Drummond’s fast break found its rhythm and that spelled doom for the visiting Wildcats.
Sydney Phillips had 12 points to lead the Lady Trojans with Sophia de Santiago, Hanna Bradshaw and Donna Seekell adding seven apiece.
The Lady Trojans will renew their county rivalry January 24 when they host the Lady Prospectors. Granite beat Drummond their previous match in December, 43-29.
