Trojan teams fall in Division Tournament openers
BUTTE – Drummond High School was 0-for-2 Thursday in their opening round games at the Western Division C Basketball Tournament at the Maroon Activities Center in Butte.
The Trojan boys started the day facing off with Arlee, falling to the warriors 72-53.
Despite big games from seniors Jonah Parke and Luke Holland with 23 and 20 points respectively, the Trojans trailed throughout as Arlee got their high-octane game into gear quickly. They established an 18-10 lead after one and were ahead 37-21 at intermission. Drummond managed to slow the bleeding in the third and outscored the Warriors in the fourth, but the comeback turned out to be too little, too late.
“We just had an off day. We struggled with the press, in the first half especially,” said Trojan head Coach Levi Parsons. “We knew that if we tried to break it by dribbling that we would just turn the ball over. We tried to focus this week on breaking the press passing the ball, but when game time came we kept trying to dribble through it and we turned the ball over a bunch as a result of that.
“We also had issues with not running our offense. We had a lot of trips down the floor where we just didn't move the ball.”
The Trojans now fall into the Consolation Bracket with every game meaning elimination for the loser. Drummond squares off with Darby Friday morning at 9 a.m.

GIRLS DIVISIONAL
Charlo 50, Drummond 36
The Lady Trojans used a strong second quarter to take a lead into the locker room at halftime 21-19. But Charlo made some adjustments and came out strong in the third, using a 20-15 run in the period to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
“We got into foul trouble early so I went to a zone,” said Drummond Head Coach Nate Bignell of the loss. “(That) gave their shooters some open shots. It dug us a hole that was hard to get out of.”
Sophomore Sydney Phillips was the lone Lady Trojan in double figures with 10 points.
Drummond is now in the Consolation Bracket and will play Seeley Swan in an elimination game Friday at noon.
