BREAKING: School Delays, heavy snowfall expected in Granite County
GRANITE COUNTY – The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for areas in and around Granite County from Sunday evening through Tuesday morning at 11 a.m.
The warning has resulted in areas schools issuing a delay in their start times. Drummond was confirmed as starting at 9:50 a.m. with buses running two hours later than usual, while Philipsburg confirmed it has pushed its start time back to 10:30. Likewise, Hall School will start at 10 a.m.
In Powell County, Helmville will have a two-hour delay.
The NWS has stated that it expects significant additional snowfalls in the areas of Butte, Georgetown Lake, Highway 12 to Garrison, Homestake Pass and MacDonald Pass. The projected snowfall totals are between 8-12 inches of snow in most areas, with Philipsburg projected to get an additional 11-15 inches.
The NWS also warns residents against travel, with large amounts of ice on roadways and visibility being reduced to near zero. Winds will accompany this weather system and may cause the wind chill to drop temperatures to as low as 30 degrees below zero.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
