Lady Prospectors best Copperheads in Anaconda
ANACONDA – The Granite Girls Tennis Team made short work of the Anaconda Copperheads Tuesday afternoon, besting the opposition on the road.
Senior Sarah Goff claimed a straight set win over Anaconda’s Harley Fullmer, 2-0, Goff won the first set on a tie-breaker 7-6 (9-7) before going on to cruise in the second set 6-2.
Reece Pitcher played No. 3 singles and earned a hard-fought win over Jaycee Jette in three sets. After dropping the opener 3-6, Pitcher rallied to take the second set 6-2 and a 10-point tie-breaker in the third, 11-9.
Molly Ballweber and Annabelle Locke played No 4 and 5 singles, respectively, with each notching easily wins. Ballweber beat Keilana Clark 6-3, 6-1 and Locke bested Farabteh Barrington 6-0, 6-1.
Senior Sierra Metesh played at No. 2 singles and was ahead 5-4 when she had to retire from her match with Becky Dienharr due to injury.
Locke teamed with Aleina Marletto in doubles and lost in straight sets to Miriam Law & Leandra Thompson, 5-7, 2-6.
The previous weekend saw the team play a number of matches in a four-team tournament in Darby.
“The Darby tournament was a great way to get a lot of tennis for my girls,” said Granite Head Coach Meredith MacDonald. “Since I have so many freshmen, the more they can play, the better!”
