Clean sweep of Valley Christian keeps Granite on winning track
PHILIPSBURG – The Lady Prospectors continued their roll Tuesday night claiming a 25-8, 25-21, 25-22 win over the visiting Eagles of Valley Christian. The win elevates them to 7-1 as they enter the second round of District play.
“We had some good great kills and excellent digs,” said GHS hitter Gretchen Hill. “Overall it felt great!”
Granite won the first set by seven points before allowing Valley to gain a lead midway into the second. But a rally that bolstered them into the lead late in the match held up to give them a 2-0 margin.
Game three saw the Lady Prospectors take a big lead that the Eagles chipped away at, making the final three-point edge a lot closer than most of the game had truly been.
Rachel Ward dished out 13 assists in the victory, with a majority of them heading to Reece Pitcher who finished with eight kills to go along with four blocks. Annabelle Locke had almost half the team’s 21 digs with 10, while Ella Tallon notched six service aces.
Granite will get a chance to earn a season sweep of the Pirates Thursday when they travel to Victor. That game is slated to be on the NFHS Network.
