County teams play into final bracket at Mineral County Volleyball Tournament
SUPERIOR – The girls volleyball teams from Granite and Drummond competed in the Mineral County Volleyball Tournament Saturday with the Lady Trojans coming away in second and the Lady Prospectors in fourth.
The day started with the two county schools clashing in pool play, splitting a pair of games. Drummond won the opener 15-8 while Granite took the second 15-7.
The Lady Prospectors moved on to sweep Superior (15-14, 15-7) and split with Hot Springs (10-15, 15-9). That play put them into the playoff bracket against Mission where Granite managed a 2-1 victory (11-15, 15-9, 15-9). That vaulted them into the semi finals where they fell to eventual tournament champion Seeley Swan 2-1 (11-15, 15-12, 10-15).
Meanwhile the Lady Trojans followed their split with Granite with wins over Hot Springs (15-6, 15-8) and Superior (15-13, 15-14) to reach the bracket. It took them three sets to beat Valley Christian (12-15, 15-12, 15-11) and two to get by St. Regis in the semifinals (15-6, 18-16). Drummond lost the championship match to Seeley 15-11, 15-13.
Thje tournament marked the halfway point in the season with both local squads ready to roll into the second half and the homestretch toward the District 13C Tournament Oct. 26 at Valley Christian. Drummond will start by hosting the Eagles Tuesday night, with Granite will play at Victor Thursday in their first meeting of the year with the Lady Pirates.
