County teams sweep opponents in Tip Off openers
RONAN – It was four up and four down for local teams as boys and girls teams for both Drummond and Granite opened the 2021-2022 season with victories.
Boys Basketball
Drummond 62, Superior 25
The Trojans took command early with a 17-2 first-quarter run and never looked back.
Caleb Parke led all scorers in the game with 23 points for the winners.
“Good first win for us to start out the year,” said DHS Coach Levi Parsons. “We still have a long ways to come as a team, especially on the offensive side, but our defense played great and we rebounded well.”

In what was clearly the closest game of the day, the Lady Trojans held off a comeback attempt by the Bobcats in the fourth quarter to hold on for the win.
Holly Hauptman led in scoring with eight, while teammates Jesse Struna, Liz Perry and Lexi Nelson each chipped in seven.

Boys Basketball
Granite 63, Noxon 38
The Prospectors opened up fast and quick to set a blistering pace and secure their first win of the season.
“We ran the floor good and everyone contributed. We have a long ways to go,” said Andrew Tallon, who led Granite with 20 points.
“We came out exactly how I thought we would ... aggressive, dominant, and firing on all cylinders,” added Hayden Mason, who finished with 17 points in his first night as a Prospector. “But we could work on rebounding and staying aggressive all game."
First-year Head Coach Mindy Avila noted that the team has dedicated this season to Mason’s father who died suddenly before the season.
Rounding out the double-figure scoring for Granite were Cavan Bobbit and Cayhel White with 12 point each.

A 20-2 first-quarter run was the Lady Prospectors needed to pull away and earn their first win of the year.
“We played a solid game,” said GHS Head Coach Brandon Piazolla. “Missed some easy ones that we need to have on the first try but I thought overall we played well. It's always good to play a game against someone else and see what we need to work on. Everyone got good minutes and played well together as a team”
Asha Comings started her senior year with a 21-point outing. Rachel Ward and Reece Pitcher each added 11 and Lucia Lee 10 in the victory.
