Drummond bests Valley Christian in straight sets
DRUMMOND – The Drummond Lady Trojans kept up their winning ways Thursday, beating Valley Christian 25-14, 25-15, 25-8 in their second home match of the year.
Drummond (2-0) opened the match with a 25-14 victory that set the tone for the entire night. Valley would play even with the locals for a spell, but eventually the Lady Trojans would take control and claim the victory.
“I’m really excited because we did well in the Tip Off Tournament in getting to the semifinals,” observed DHS first-year head coach Sam Larson, “and next week we have Charlo who we lost to in the tournament, so it’s going to be a really good test to see if we’ve grown as a team.
“One of the most encouraging things I’ve seen is a quick recovery after any errors we’ve made. And all of my players are contributing on the stats list.”
Delaney Wagner led the attack at the net with nine kills, followed by Lexi Nelson with six. Anna Kate Sawfer had a team best 14 assists, Bailey Park was tops in aces with four and Kimber Parsons had a pair of blocks.
Nelson added 11 assists to her effort on the night and was tabbed as the Kiko’s Mexican Restaurant Player of the Game.
Drummond will take the weekend off before climbing back into action, facing the Lady Vikings of Charlo Tuesday in a non-district matchup. Then they will turn around and head to Philipsburg for the first meeting of the year against county rival Granite on Thursday.
