Drummond downs Seeley in Western Division opener, 3-1

CHURCHHILL – The Drummond Lady Trojans needed four sets to earn a 3-1 win over the Seeley Swan Lady Blackhawks in the first round of the Class C Western Division Volleyball Tournament Thursday afternoon.

Drummond advances into the Winner’s Bracket Semifinal against the winner of the Gardiner-Valley Christian match at 7 p.m. Friday.

Seeley falls into the Consolation bracket and will play the loser of the same match Friday at 12:45 p.m.

The Lady Trojans controlled the first two sets, with the Lady Blackhawks challenging more in the second. The third set was closer, with the two squads keeping the score tied midway through to 14-all. See took a three-point lead to 17-14 when DHS Head Coach Sam Larson called a timeout to settle her team. The tactic worked, piercing the margin and knotting the game at 20-20 and again at 22-22.

But Seeley wasn’t done, stringing together three straight points to finish the set and force a fourth.

But that proved to only be putting off the inevitable as Drummond got an early lead and maintained it to claim the match.

Anna Kate Sawfer was busy handing our hits Thursday, collecting 40 over the four-set match. 12 went to Kimber Parsons and another 10 to Remington Cline. The two Lady Trojan hitters also had two blocks each.

Charlee Cline was the top server with 11 aces, while Parsons and CyLeigh Langton were close behind with eight apiece. Brooke Hicks led on defense with 19 digs.
