Drummond eliminates Seeley, heads to Consolation finals
MANHATTAN – The Drummond Lady Trojans showed they had more to give Friday afternoon, defeating Seeley Swan 3-1 in the semifinals of the Consolation Bracket of the MHSA Class C Western Division Volleyball Tournament.
The victory puts the Lady Trojans into the Consolation Finals against the Ennis Lady Mustangs at 11 a.m. Saturday. The winner will face Twin Bridges (loser of the Winner’s Bracket final to Manhattan Christian 3-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
All games in the tournament can be viewed on the NFHS Network.
For the Lady Trojans it was the fourth time this year that Drummond has beaten the Lady Blackhawks, going a combined 12-2 in sets. Dating back to last year’s District 13C tournament, the Lady Trojans are 6-0 against Seeley Swan.
Friday’s match was a tale of two scores for both teams. Drummond won sets one, two and four, with Seeley taking early leads in each. The Lady Trojans jumped out in set three only to watch the Lady Blackhawks claim victory.
As has been the case this year, it was a multifaceted attack for Drummond with three hitters registering 10 or more kills. Holly Hauptman led the way with 18, while Delaney Wagner added 13 and Liz Perry 11. Making sure the hit factory was being fed was senior setter Jesse Struna who logged a tourney best 42 assists. Hauptman and Struna each had two service aces while Lexi Nelson was the top blocker with three.
