Drummond falls to Seeley in Girls D13C final
HAMILTON – It was a battle of rivals in the District 13C Girls Basketball Championship Saturday night, as icy as the roads surrounding western Montana. But in the end it was the Seeley Swan Lady Blackhawks that claimed the win, the title, and the district’s No.1 seed heading into next week’s Western Divisional Tournament.
The game was played at Hamilton high School.
The Lady Trojans jumped out to an early lead, claiming a 13-4 margin after one period. But Seeley fought back by dominating the second period 15-4 to lead 19-17 at intermission.
Like two heavyweights in a championship bout, the two squads continued to duke it out into the second half with Drummond taking a 29-28 lead into the final quarter.
The Lady Blackhawks Emily Maughan scored seven of her game-high 19 points in the final eight minutes, including 4-for-4 from the foul line. Her play also lifted her teammates as they outscored the Lady Trojans 15-9 to secure the win.
Lexi Nelson was Drummond’s only double figure scorer with 16.
The Granite Lady Prospectors won the Consolation Bracket and since they and the Lady Trojans each have one loss and did not play each other in the tournament, there will be a challenge game Monday night at the Maroon Activities Center (MAC) in Butte. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
The winner will enter begin play in the Western Division Tournament Thursday while the loser has their season come to an end.
