Drummond survives five-setter with Valley, advances at D13C tourney
PABLO – Drummond clawed its way through a five-set match this morning, beating Valley Christian 3-2 in a Consolation Bracket victory at Salish Kootenai College.
The win guarantees the Lady Trojans a place at the Western Division Tournament next week in Manhattan. They play the winner of the Lincoln-Seeley Swan match for fourth place, with the winner advancing for a shot at an even better finish.
Valley falls into a fifth-place contest with the loser of that same match. The victory gets fifth and a spot at divisional. The loser goes home.
The Lady Eagles edged the Lady Trojans 26-24 in the opener, but Drummond rebounded to take sets two and three. Valley rebounded to claim set four before the locals won set five and the match.
For the first time this season, the Lady Trojans had four hitters get into double figures in kills. But it was due in large part to the sets of Anna Kate Sawfer who logged a team-best 51 in the match. Kimber Parsons was the leading recipient of Sawfer’s efforts with 22 kills and a pair of blocks. Remington Cline had 12 kills, while Charlee Cline and Hazel Sawfer each had 10. Charlee Cline also had two blocks.
Anna Kate also led in digs with 27, while her sister Hazle had a team-high three service aces.
