Drummond sweeps visiting Cats to start home stand

DRUMMOND – The Lady Trojans rolled on to a perfect 5-0 record Tuesday night, sweeping the Clark Fork Mountain Cats 25-23, 25-19, 25-20 to open a three-game home stand that will culminate with Homecoming Saturday against Seeley Swan.

“I think the big difference is we’re more like a family,” said senior hitter Sydney Phillips. “We’re not just a team. We have each other’s backs and we know that.”

That cohesiveness has allowed Drummond to get off to its fastest start in years, sweeping its last two opponents after battling Granite to a win in five games.

Tuesday night’s win over the Mountain Cats put on display the Lady Trojans fluidity on the court, with solid coverage on hits by opposing players and featuring solid passing sand setting that allows its strikers well-placed opportunities to put the ball away.

“We’ve definitely gotten into a rhythm and we hope it stays that way,” added Phillips.

Phillips led the Lady Trojan assault at the net with a team-high 12 kills. Teammate Hannah Bradshaw was right behind her with six and was all over the stat sheet in aces (2), digs (11) and blocks (2). Sophomore Holly Hauptman added nine kills and a pair of blocks while Gracie Weaver was tops in service aces with three. Jessie Struna had all 28 of her teams assists.

Before their Homecoming celebration Saturday the Lady Trojans will host Charlo Thursday. Junior Varsity games start at 5:30 with the varsity following at 7 p.m.
