Drummond teams claim fourth seed in Boys & Girls postseason bracket

NOXON – It was a tale of two games that resulted in the same postseason berth the Drummond basketball squads.

The Lady Trojans posted a 43-6 win over the Lady Red Devils of Noxon Saturday night, closing out their season at 8-3 in District 13C play. The win was good enough to earn a fourth-place seed into the postseason bracket and forego a play-in game Wednesday.

Drummond will play the highest seed surviving those play-in games.

“The girls played one of their best games of the year,” said DHS Head Coach Levi Parsons after the win. “Their defense was incredible, only allowing six points and their offense was a perfect match to go with it.”

Charlee Cline led Drummond with 21 points while Kimber Parsons added 17.

The Lady Trojans will play Thursday at 1:30 p.m. against the highest remaining seed after the play-in games. The District 13C Tournament takes place at Frenchtown High School.

“The boys got off to a slow start,” said DHE Head Coach Levi Parsons, “but (they) were able to recover and turn it into a game for the next two and a half quarters.  They played tough defense, rebounded well, and created a lot of good shots. We just couldn’t find the bottom of the net.”

That slow start translated into a 19-5 run in the opening stanza for the host Red Devils. Drummond rallied to outscore Noxon 25-21 over the game’s middle two periods, but another Red Devil surge in the fourth put he game out of reach.

Michael James led the Trojans with 14 points while Kadin Graveley added nine.

Despite the loss, Drummond finished District 13C play with a record of 7-4 and tied with Seeley Swan for fourth place. But thanks to the double overtime win against the Blackhawks earlier in the year, the Trojans hold the tiebreaker and get the fourth seed in the bracket. Seeley is forced into the play-in games where they will face No. 12 seed Victor who finished 0-11.

The Trojans will play Thursday at 10:30 a.m. against the highest remaining seed after the play-in games. The District 13C Tournament takes place at Frenchtown High School.
