Drummond upset by Charlo, falls into Consolation Bracket
PABLO – Things didn’t go quite as No. 2 ranked Drummond had planned, falling to the No. 4 ranked Charlo Lady Vikings 3-2 Thursday. The loss came in the Winner’s Bracket Semifinals and moves Charlo on to face Granite Friday at 1:30 p.m.
The Lady Trojans must now trod the longer road to the championship through the Consolation Bracket, and will start with a 9 a.m. match against the winner of the St. Regis-Valley Christian match Saturday morning. The winner will advance, but despite having two losses the loser will play for fifth place and a chance to head to the Western Division Tournament in Manhattan next week.
Drummond took the opening set, but saw Charlo rally to earn the next two and take a 2-1 advantage. The Lady Trojans battled back with a 25-23 win in set four to force a fifth. Despite leading early, Drummond was unable to hold on and advance in the tournament.
The extended scoring allowed for players to pick up big numbers statistically. Kimber Parsons led Drummond with 18 kills, followed by Remington Cline with 12 and Charlee Cline with 11. Anna Kate Sawfer had 38 assists while her sister Hazel hammered five aces. Brooke Hicks collected a massive 30 digs on defense.
