Girls cruise, Boys falter against St. Regis
DRUMMOND – Trojan basketball teams met with different fates Saturday. The Lady Trojans posted an easy 24-point win while the Trojan Men let an upset win escape their grasp.
The Lady Trojans were looking for a more balanced scoring attack and found it as they beat the Lady Tigers 66-42. Eight different players found their way into the scorebook for Drummond, led by Kimber Parsons with a game-high 24 points. Charlee Cline added 16 and Casey James nine in the victory.
“She was struggling there to start the game,” said DHS Head Coach Levi Parsons, speaking of James. “But to get three scorers like that tonight is a great thing. If we can have that the rest of the way, we’ll be pretty tough through the rest of the season.”
Drummond opened the game on a 9-0 run before the Lady Tigers clawed their way back into a 13-9 margin by period’s end.
“I wasn’t real happy with how we came out,” added Parsons. “We came out flat. Our offense was flat, and our defense was kind of non-existent. We just got a little complacent and weren’t doing our jobs.”
Parsons made some adjustments and the Lady Trojans found their groove, outscoring the visitors 39-20 over the next two periods.
Drummond takes to the road Friday to play Two Eagle River.

The Trojans exploded from the opening tip to take a 19-12 lead over the ranked Tigers after one period of play and held onto a 29-23 margin at intermission.
But St. Regis found their rhythm on offense and defense in the second half, outscoring the locals 31-15.
“They upped their defensive pressure and we just quit running our offense,” said a frustrated Levi Parsons, DHS Head Coach, after the loss. “They got our kids all stood up and once we stopped running our offense, we struggled.”
Illness may also have played a factor for the Trojans, with three players battling the bug currently making rounds in the county and Logan Hauptman just returning after being infected.
Michael James led Drummond with 24 points, 14 of which came after halftime. Kadin Graveley added seven and Hauptman six.
Drummond will now get some time off to regroup and get healthy for their next game Friday at Two Eagle River.
