Granite falls from Divisional with loss to Eagles
FRENCHTOWN – Friday brought an end to the Granite High School basketball season with the Lady Prospectors suffering a 54-21 loss to Manhattan Christian. The game was played at Frenchtown High School and was in the Consolation Bracket of the ‘C’ Western Division.
The Eagles got off to a fast start, outscoring the locals 12-4 in the opening period. But the Lady Prospectors, who had suffered a loss the night before on a last-second shot by Seeley, never seemed to get their offense in gear. Granite scored five points in the second quarter while Manhattan Christian rattled off 20 on its way to a 32-11 halftime lead.
Asha Comings finished with a team-high nine points for Granite. Rachel Ward scored four points, Amelia Hill and Lucia Lee had three each and Audrey Radtke chipped in two.
The loss gives the locals their second loss in the event and ends their season. However, it was a season that saw GHS Coach Brandon Piazolla’s girls start slow and work their way deep into the postseason. With the loss of seniors Radtke, Shelby Struna and Serenity O’Donnell, Granite will need its current underclassmen to step up to fill a few voids that should leave the Lady Prospectors with a promising ’20-’21 squad.
