Granite girls fall in five-set match at Charlo

CHARLO – It was a hard-fought match that saw the Lady Prospectors claim and early lead only to let it slip away at the end. Granite lost the match 25-18, 22-25, 12-25, 25-22, 8-15.

After controlling set one, Charlo found its rhythm and took sets two and three. Trailing by one, the Lady Prospectors rallied to claim the fourth and tied the match at 2-2 before the Lady Vikings calimed the fifth set and the match.

“Having a non conference game to start the season is always a great time to work things out and that's how we approached it this year,” said second-year coach Kaley Hansen. “We lost some key players last year so we're trying some new things and moving people around. There are things we need to work on but there were also a lot of great plays and we played scrappy.”

Ella Tallon and Montannah Piar led the locals with three kills each, with the former also tying Lucia Lee with one assist each. Lee added five blocks with Ramsey Smith getting seven aces and eight digs.

The Lady Trojans will play next in their own tournament, the Granite Invitational, Saturday in Philipsburg.
