Granite opens new year with road wins at Victor


VICTOR – The Prospector basketball squads stepped into 2025 with a pair of road victories in Victor.

Boys Varsity

Granite 64, Victor 22

“We played hard and finally got the monkey off of our back,” said senior Tahvo Lattin. “Feels good to have a win.”

The ‘monkey’ that Lattin referred to was a lot of close losses early in the Prospectors’ schedule, but that all changed Friday night. Granite exploded with a 26-5 first-quarter run followed by a 22-5 one in the second.

Eric Pitcher led the way in the scoring column with 17 points, with Jake Dauenhauer close behind at 16. JJ Lee also cracked double figures with 10.

The Prospectors will try and make it back-to-back wins Saturday when they host St. Regis starting at 3 p.m.

If Montannah Piar’s New Year’s resolution was to but a 30-cap this season, she hit it early.

Piar led all scorers in the game with 33 points that included four from behind the arc and 8-for-9 from the charity stripe.

She had eight in the first period and when paired with teammate Ramsey Smith’s seven, the Lasy Prospectors rolled to a 17-7 lead after eight minutes.

Granite will face stiffer competition Saturday when they host St. Regis in games tsrating at 3 p.m.
