KALISPELL – The Trojan Cross Country Team grabbed second place at the Class C State Finals Saturday, using great runs by the Parke boys to secure the title.
The Trojans actually tied Manhattan Christian for the championship with 33 points each, but lost the tiebreaker as the Eagles’ top runner finished ahead of Drummond’s Scott Parke. The senior runner finished the 5,000 meter course in a time of 16:32.92.
Manhattan’s Oren Arthun won the event in a time of 15:55.29, just 37.63 ahead of Parke. Thomas Oylear of Powder River placed second in a time of 16:25.87.
Drummond team second place finish was secured by the run of freshman Dawson Parke, Scott’s younger cousin. He placed fifth at 17:01.23 and was the highest finishing freshman in the race. Manhattan’s Cavan Visser finished fourth ahead of the younger Parke at 16:57.66.
Drummond’s team rounded out the day with solid runs by Jacob Pfendler (SO, 25th, 18:58.97), Kai Knoeller (FR, 74th, 21:39.92), Maverick Mikolas (8th, 99th, 23:50.75), and Caiden Suthers (FR, 103rd, 24:15.92).
The Trojans lose only Scott Parke to graduation with a host of young talent in the stable for years to come.
