Lady Prospectors best Victor to close first round of District play
PHILIPSBURG – Once the Lady Prospectors got over the hump, it was smooth sailing as they claimed a 3-1 win over the visiting Pirates of Victor, 25-17, 18-25, 25-9, 25-10. The win keeps Granite near the top of the standings at 6-1.
The Two squads played tight sets to open the match and finish tied 1-1. But one the locals got over their opening jitters, the easily dispatched Victor to claim the victory.
“It seems like our team is so afraid of losing that we tense up and become our own worst enemy,” said GHS Head Coach Kaley Hansen after the match. “We’re afraid of losing a set to a team that we shouldn’t. But once we do it, we’re fine and see that isn’t so bad.”
On the night the Lady Prospectors only registered eight digs as a team, but made up for it with solid performances everywhere else. Asha Comings led in kills with 10 while Lucia Lee and SaDee Lilyquist teaming up for a pair of blocks each. Ella Tallon had 16 assists and Reece Pitcher collected seven service aces.
Granite gets no time to rest, hosting Valley Christian Tuesday and then traveling to play the Pirates in Victor Thursday.
