Lady Prospectors hold off Hornets in Divisional opener
CHURCHHILL – The Granite Lady Prospectors started off the Class C Western Division Volleyball Tournament on the right foot, sweeping the White Sulphur Springs Lady Hornets in their opener.
The win puts Granite into the Winner’s Bracket semifinal Thursday at 5:15 p.m. against the winner of the Charlo-Manhattan-Christian match.
Granite won the opening set in commanding fashion, but required a comeback of dramatic proportions in the second. Trailing 24-21, GHS Head Coach Kaley Hansen called a timeout to settle her squad. The message di the trick, as the Lady Prospectors rallied to knot the match at 24 before finally pulling out the 27-25 victory.
The third set was close early, but Granite took control midway through to secure the match.
Junior Addi Lilyquist lit up the White Sulphur blockers, hammering 17 kills. Teammate senior Montannah Piar was also in double figures with 11. Each girl had a pair of blocks.
Ella Tallon continued to setup her teammates with 34 assists while Addison Spehar led in aces with two.
