Lady Prospectors ousted by Superior
FRENCHTOWN - It wasn't the ending that anyone expected, and certainly not the Lady Prospectors.
Granite lost 55-49 to Superior Friday afternoon, dropping them from the Class C Western Divisional Tournament. It was only the second time all season the Lady Prospectors lost back-to-back games.
"Tough way to end the season," said GHS Head Coach Brandon Piazolla after the loss. "(I'm) proud of all the hard work these girls have put in."
Granite took an early lead and appeared to be in full control after the opening eight minutes, 15-5. The final three points came on a three-point buzzer beater by Asha Comings.
But the Lady Bobcats turned the tables in the second quarter, outgunning the Lady Prospectors 16-6 and knotting the game 21-21 at intermission.
The game remained close through three periods, but when Granite lost center Reece Pitcher in the fourth on her fifth foul they lost one of their two major scorers. A few minutes later they'd also lose Comings, leaving the task of completing the comeback on its younger players.
Pitcher and Comings led the Lady Prospectors with 15 points apiece. They, along with fellow senior Sadee Lilyquist will depart the team due to graduation.
