Lady Prospectors topple visiting Eagles in Philipsburg
PHILIPSBURG – Junior Montannah Piar had 18 of her game-high 24 points in the first half to lead the Granite Lady Prospectors to a 51-11 blowout of visiting Valley Christian Friday night in Philipsburg.
The win improves Granite to 6-1 in the District 13C standings, and in a virtual tie with Drummond after the Lady Trojans defeated Lincoln Friday night. The two teams will clash for first place Friday in Drummond.
The Lady Prospectors turned up the heat on defense as the Lady Eagles could get only two points in the first half. Midway into the third, Granite had amassed a 40-point lead and started a running clock that would seal the deal on the win.
“(The) girls got the job done,” said GHS Girls Coach Cash Laslovich. “We have battled the flu all week and these girls proved their tough.”
Ramsey Smith added 11 points for Granite as the only other double-digit scorer.
Sydney Schneider was the top scorer for Valley with six.
The Prospector boys fell to Valley, 73-34.
Granite will play at Seeley Saturday before prepping for the faceoff with Drummond Friday on the road.
