Lady Trojans close district play beating Darby
DRUMMOND – The Lady Trojans put a clamp on the third place finish in the District 13 standings Thursday with a 3-1 win over the Darby Tigers, 25-19, 20-25, 25-14, 25-21. The match was their sixth in eight days and closed out their regular season district and home schedules.
“We weren’t the same intensity that we were Tuesday night,” said DHS Head Coach Paige Fickler. “I’m happy that we came out with a win in four, but I’d have liked to see us do it in three. It’s all good. It’s about learning and getting better.”
After a Drummond win in the opening set that wasn’t quite as close as the score would indicate, the Tigers rallied back to take set two and even the match. But the Lady Trojans straightened out their ship to collect convincing victories in sets three and four.
While the Darby blockers seemed to have figures out Drummond junior hitter Holly Hauptman for most of the match, they had practically no answer for junior Liz Perry and sophomore Delaney Wagner. Wagner finished with a team-high 10 kills while Perry had seven. Perry also dominated on defense with six blocks.
Jesse Struna had 12 assists, Bailey Parke 10 digs and Hauptman six aces to lead the locals in each of those stats.
The Lady Trojans head to Deer Lodge to play the Powell County Wardens in a non-district match Friday. The Wardens are a Class B school and will provide a good match as Drummond heads into the postseason next week.
