Lady Trojans fall in five-set battle to Butte JV

DRUMMOND – The Lady Bulldog junior varsity may have won the match, but the Lady Trojans may have gotten a much bigger victory.

Playing without starters Charlee & Remington Cline, Drumond had to dive deep into its bench to fill the holes left in its lineup. While they lost the match in five sets, the experience gained by the Lady Trojans may pay off down the road as the postseason approaches.

“We did way better against them than we did the last time,” observed DHS Head Coach Sam Larson, noting her squad lost to the Lady Bulldogs JV 3-0 previously this season. “We lost each set by like two points, so I really love being able to take this team to five (sets). It’s nice to play so well without two starters and be so close, but not quite get the edge and finish it off and seal the deal.”

“The great thing about this game is it shows the team that there are people who can come in, play, make an impression and do their job. Having that little bit of pressure on all those starting positions makes people work a little harder.”

Drummond will get another chance to test its skills Tuesday when they get a rematch with Granite in Philipsburg.

Every one of the five sets were played to within a few points until Set 4 when the Lady Trojans managed a 25-13 victory to tie the match at 2-2. Momentum seemed on Drummond’s side, but Butte overcame a lead early in the fifth set and came away with the win.
