Lady Trojans keep moving forward in sweep of Victor
DRUMMOND – Lady Trojan Head Coach Sam Larson has her team moving in the right direction.
Drummond made short work of the visiting Victor Lady Pirates Saturday, sweeping them 3-0 and closing out the first round of District 13C play at 5-0.
“That was the performance I was looking for,” said Larson after the match, which ended in just 58 minutes. “We had a strong offense, converting off serve-receive, and all my servers were working on spot serving. It was a good match for us.”
The Lady Trojans will ge three practices before they have to face two-time defending state champion Manhattan Christian Thursday, this time on the road.
“Next week we got to Manhattan Christian to play them again and so it is hard to keep that momentum going,” said Larson, “but we have three solid days of practice before we play them which is nice. Then we have a tournament that Saturday at Sheridan.”
Drummond started its match with Victor on fire, jumping out to a huge lead on the basis of service points by Delaney Wagner and Brooke Hicks. Set two was a mirror of the first with both finishing in scores of 25-4.
Set three closer, but not enough to make a difference.
Wagner led in Kills (7), Aces (10), and digs (8), with Anna Kate Sawfer dishing a team best 13 assists.
After next week’s runs to Manhattan and Sheridan, the Lady Trojans will travel to Valley Christian September 26th and back to Manhattan for a tourney Sept. 30th.
