Lady Trojans scupper visiting Pirates for third win
DRUMMOND – The Lady Trojan volleyball team battled the visiting pirates of Victor to a 3-1 victory 25-18, 18-25, 25-22, 25-15.
After a strong opening set, Drummond (3-1) fell to Victor in the second set by the identical score. But a hard-fought win in the third settled the locals down and help propel them to a match-ending victory in the fourth and final set.
“I think we’re scrappier than Drummond has been historically,” said DHS Head Coach Paige Fickler after the win. “Like when I played we weren’t scrappy at all. We were a three-ball team. These guys are getting better, because I think the change in speeds for the other teams is nice.”
It was the one-two punch of Holly Hauptman and Delaney Wagner that helped get the attack going all night with the former collecting 12 kills and the latter eight. Wagner had three blocks while Hauptman added two and four service aces.
Feeding the beasts at the net were setters Jessie Struna and Lexi Nelson who had 11 and eight, respectively. Hadley Spencer tied Hauptman for top honors at the service line with four aces. Macy Williams led all back row players with 12 digs.
Drummond will take to the road to play in the Arlee Tournament Saturday.
The Lady Trojan JV swept the Pirates 25-17, 25-20, 15-6.
