Lady Trojans stung by Hornets, fall from division bracket
CHURCHHILL – The Drummond Lady Trojans fought the good fight, but in the end it wasn’t enough to beat White Sulphur. The Lady Hornets beat the Lady Trojans 3-0 Friday afternoon, eliminating the locals and advancing themselves in the Western Division Volleyball Consolation Bracket.
White Sulphur controlled the opening set to take a 1-0. Drummond responded with a big margin to open the second, leading 14-7 before allowing the Lady Hornets to creep back in. The two teams eventually knotted the game at 19-all before the Lady Trojans opened up- another lead only to watch it slip away. White Sulphur claimed the 26-24 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
When the third set started, the Lady Hornets had all the momentum. They broke open a 10-2 advantage before Drummond called a timeout to reset itself. The respite allowed the locals to close the gap but never fully. White Sulphur won set 3 25-19 to eliminate the Lady Trojans.
Remington Cline led Drummond with eight kills in their final match of the 2024 season, with Kimber Parsons right behind with six. Charlee Cline dished 18 assists, Naomi Perry had a pair of blocks, and Brooke Hicks had 21 defensive digs.
