Lady Trojans sweep into new season against Superior

SUPERIOR – The defending District 13C champs picked right up where they left off last year with a cohesive team win over the Lady Bobcats in Superior. Drummond won the match 25-16, 25-19, 25-15.

The Lady Trojans easily won the first two sets before Superior found their legs and took a 4-0 lead in set three. But Drummond was not to be denied their season-opening victory, rallying to tie the game and eventually create a lead they would never relinquish.

“It was a great start to the season!,” said second-year head coach Paige Fickler. “The girls hit very well! I am proud of them! They adjusted to a new rotation with ease!

“I'm looking forward to our next game! The team will only continue to get better from here!”

Drummond logged 30 kills as a team Thursday night, with senior Holly Hauptman collecting 12 of them. Fellow senior Liz Perry was close behind with nine. Junior Delaney Wagner and freshman Kimber Parsons each had a block, with Wagner also topping the team in service aces at four. Hauptman was also the squad’s top defensive player with 10 digs. Senior Jesse Struna had all 25 of the team’s assists.

The Lady Trojans will now move onto the Granite Invitational Saturday in Philipsburg.

The Lady Trojan JV team opened the night mirroring what their varsity counterparts would do later. They swept the host Lady Bobcats to advance to 1-0 on the year.

8th Grader Remington Cline logged half of teams eight kills with four, while Brooke Hicks led the locals with seven aces.
