Local teams battle in final day of District 13C Tournament

FRENCHTOWN – All four local teams found their way into championship games Saturday at the District 13C Tournament in Frenchtown. The Lady Prospectors earned a spot in the West Divisional Thursday while the Trojan men have a play-in game Monday.

Drummond Boys

Darby 54, Drummond 46

The third time must have been the charm for Darby as they posted an eight-point win over Drummond in the tournament championship.

The Trojans started slowly, unable to score for the first 4:42 of the game. They were down 8-0 when Colt Parsons finally hit a mid-range jumper to get them on the board. Once they did, Drummond outscored Darby 10-3 over the final three minutes of the period.

The Trojans rallied to hold a one-point lead at several points in the second quarter and were down three with time expiring in the second when the Tigers’ Sawyer Townsend drained a long three-pointer to make it a five-point deficit at halftime, 27-22.

Darby’s 18-13 margin in the third put the Trojans behind and they would not be able to catch up before the final buzzer.

Parsons led the Trojans with 14 points, with Cooper Bradshaw and Chase Goldade each adding eight.

The loss left Drummond in second place and forced into a play-in game with Consolation Bracket champ Seeley Swan Monday. That game will tip off at 6 p.m. in Frenchtown.
