Parke sixth at State Cross Country finale
MISSOULA – Manhattan Christian may have dominated the field, but Drummond’s Scott Parke pierced the Top Ten with a sixth place finish at the MHSA State Cross Country Meet Saturday in Missoula.
Parke finished with a time of 18:15.37. The event was held at the University of Montana Gold Course.
Parke didn’t jump from the line as was viewed by those in attendance, with the Class C runners taking off ahead of some Class A runners early. But the Trojan runner bided his time and eventually made his move.
“Previous races I had gone out a little too fast,” said Parke of Saturday’s event, “and so I wanted to make sure I didn’t get out to fast (in this race) and wanted to work my way up from behind.”
Parke credited his finish to training and the coaching and advice he got from DHS Head Coach Darcy Schindler.
Drummond had two more competitors in the event in Jonathan Pfendler and Dalton Suthers. Pfendler was 54th in a time of 21:43.74 while Suthers placed 85th in 24:18.49. There were 111 total runners in the field.
“All the runners this worked hard this year and I thank them for their hard work and dedication,” said Schindler Saturday via text. “They continued to improve throughout the year.”
