TIP-OFF TOURNEY: Lady Trojans, Prospector Men get wins in Day 2 of tourney


RONAN – The Lady Trojans evened their record at 1-1 and the Prospectors boys pushed theirs to 2-0 during play in the second day of the 2019 Tip-Off Tournament at Ronan High School.


DRUMMOND GIRLS

Drummond 53, St. Regis 37

A balanced first half of scoring and defense led the Lady Trojans to their first win of the year over the Lady Tigers.

“For being our first two games of the season, we definitely showed the crowd we have great potential,” said DHS guard Jessie Struna. “We don't drag on our mistakes. All we have to say is next play and go from there. #sisterhood

Struna scored a game-high 14 points to lead Drummond, with teammates Sydney Phillips and Hannah Bradshaw close behind with 12 apiece.

The Lady Trojans next game is Dec. 13. It was originally schedule as a home game but as been switched to a road contest at Victor.

The Tigers of St. Regis exploded in the first quarter with a 33-4 run that put them ahead and allowed them to coast to a win over a younger Trojan squad.

Caleb Parke was the leading scorer for Drummond with Wyatt Rigby adding six.

The Trojans next game is Dec. 13. It was originally schedule as a home game but as been switched to a road contest at Victor.

The Savage Heat made an adjustment at halftime that turned a 17-16 deficit into a 24-point third quarter run that led to a win over the Lady Prospectors.

Amelia Hill led the locals with 13 points with Rachel Ward chipping in nine.

Granite will host Sheridan in Philipsburg Dec. 17.

GRANITE BOYS

Prospectors 71, Hot Springs 50

Kade Cutler hit a trio of three pointers and scored 15 points in the first quarter on his way to a season high 28 against Hot Springs Saturday. The win improves Granite to 2-0 on the year as they prepare to host Sheridan Dec. 17 in Philipsburg.

“We came out aggressive and really jumped on them in the first quarter,” explained Granite Head Coach Dustin Keltner. “We had to play with some foul issues after that, but the kids responded and made plays when we needed to.

The kids are playing hard and having fun. I'm very proud of the way the guys played at tip-off.  It's exciting because we are playing well and there is a ton of room for improvement.”

Joining Cutler in double figures for the Prospectors were Brian Ward with 12 and Daniel Brabender with 10.
