Titans crush Charlo, move to 3-0

Drummond – It was obvious from the opening kickoff that the Charlo Vikings were in a rebuilding year. Out matched and outgunned, the Vikings were blanked by the Flint Creek Titans Friday, 62-0.

Six different Titan players found their way into the end zone, two of them twice, starting with sophomore quarterback Jake Dauenhauer’s 11-yard run around the left side just under two minutes into the ballgame. Logan Hauptman added the two-point conversion run and Flint Creek had all the points it would ever need with an 8-0 lead.

Three minutes later Hauptman took a direct snap, drifted to the left side and found Eric Pitcher with a 16-yard pass. Pitcher had to reel in the catch and, coupled with Austin Knoeller’s conversion run, put the locals up 16-0.

The Titan defense even got in on the scoring, forcing a safety and increasing the lead to 18-0.

Knoeller and Wyatt Daniels added scoring runs to close out the first quarter scoring and increasing the margin to 32-0.

Tony Barkell and Michael Goettle each added a pair of rushing touchdowns in the second and third quarters to finish the victory.

Defensively Flint Creek gave the Vikings no quarter from start to finish. It was highlighted by sophomore JJ Lee’s three interceptions in the secondary.

When asked about what his team wanted from this game, Assistant Coach Paul Kulaski focused on the future.

“When we get up like we did, we want to get a lot of people in and get our JV players experience,” he noted. “We want the younger kids getting in there and playing with the older kids to get them that game experience. After that we just want to get the JVs in there, keep the intensity up, and keep playing Titan football.”

When asked further about the mechanics of the players in the win, Kulaski added, “You don’t want to get sloppy and make mistakes. You just want to come out and execute.”

The Titans will play next down the road in Deer Lodge when they take on the Powell County Wardens September 20 at 7 p.m.
