Titans end successful season with banquet

PHILIPSBURG – The Flint Creek Titans put a bow on their 2024 season Sunday night, celebrating their efforts and accomplishments.

Flint Creek went 10-2 on the season, falling just one game short of the state title match after a loss to Belt in the semifinals. They had earned a No. 2 seed into the postseason by posting an 8-1 mark during the regular season. The only demerit on their record was a loss at Manhattan Christian in Week 7.

The Titans landed 15 spots on the All-Southern Conference First & Second Teams, with Logan Hauptman being tabbed the Offensive MVP. Hauptman, along with Chance Dunkerson and Austin Knoeller made the All-State Team.

When it came to team awards, Head Coach Jason Ostler tabbed Gus Smith as Most Improved, Michael Goettle with the Titan Award, Tavho Lattin as the Defensive MVP, Hauptman as the Offensive MVP and Eric Pitcher as the overall Team MVP.

The players found their way onto some of the Titan All-Time lists after their efforts this season. Perhaps the most visible was Hauptman, the hard-charging, senior running back who finished the year with 1,384 yards and 16 touchdowns on 216 carries. That yardage landed him with the third-best single season in Flint Creek History. Combined with previous seasons, Hauptman is No. 3 all time with 2,941 yards on 471 carries.

Sophomore quarterback Jake Dauenhauer moved into fourth place all-time after just one-and-a-half seasons with 1,152 career yards (136-for-225, 60.4%)

Perhaps the quietest record that fell came on defense, where Knoeller posted the second-best season ever with 98.5 tackles. That total included a single season record of 73 assisted tackles, breaking Colby Manley’s 2018 mark of 58. Knoeller is third all-time in stops with 179.0, just 26 behind all-time leader Colton Grange at 205.0.

As a team, the Titans are now 98-20 since their inception in 2014. They allowed 15.7 points per game on defense, tied for the third best season ever with 2022. Flint Creek allowed 9.8 PPG in 2018 and a franchise best 6.3 in 2020.

Ostler finished his fourth season as the program’s head coach, tying him with Mike Cutler for number of years served. He is 36-8 with four straight playoff appearances and a 6-4 mark in the postseason.
