Titans wrangle Big Horns for third straight victory

PHILIPSBURG – Flint creek used a punishing running game with an even harder hitting defense to soundly handle the Big Horns of Lone Peak Friday night, 50-19.

The victory improves the Titans to 3-0 on the year and they remain in a tie with Ennis who defeated Sheridan 52-0.

By halftime seniors Andrew Tallon and Tyler Burden had each collected over 120 yards rushing and combined for three rushing scores. Each would add another running touchdown in the third period to put the game well out of reach.

But late in the second Tallon was able to help two Flint Creek linemen realize their offensive fantasies. The senior QB hit Reece Rigby with an 18-yard TD pass (that saw the recipient do some fancy footwork to stay in the end zone) followed by an over the top 11 yard strike to Ben Bradshaw for his first-ever score.

But as the third quarter ended and the fourth began, Flint Creek Head Coach Jason Ostler brought in the reserves to get some on-field varsity experience. Unlike other games, Lone Peak was able to take advantage of the less experienced players by scoring three times before the final buzzer.

“We’re just trying to find some spots where guys can plug into,” remarked Ostler of the scores. “Some guys played in some spots that they haven’t gotten bunch of time at in practice.”

Tallon finished 6-for-9 passing for 59 yards and the two scores. On the ground he and Burden accounted for 361 yards, of which the latter had 201.

Burden and Bradshaw each finished with 4.5 tackles with Olle Wigge getting two pass defenses.

In other Southern Conference games this weekend, Cascade defeated Deer Lodge (52-14), Ennis defeated Sheridan (52-0) and Seeley Swan took the week off. Simms will host Choteau Saturday in a 1 p.m. kickoff.

The Titans will take off on their first true road game of the year when they head to Charlo next Friday night. The Vikings are presently 2-0 on the year and will face the Pirates in their Week 3 matchup Saturday at Victor. Charlo has previously beaten Valley Christian 42-6 and Arlee 58-12.
