Trojan cross-country runners hitting their mid-season stride
DRUMMOND – The Drummond Cross Country team is running at top efficiency as they head into the latter half of their season.
Sophomore Scott Parke leads the way for the boys, currently holding a 7th place ranking statewide in Class C. Parke has had a top-five finish in three of his five meets this season and claiming 15th out of 92 runners at the Mission Shadows meet in Polson this past weekend.
Junior Jonathan Pfendler and freshman Dalton Suthers round out the boys squad. Pfendler, who is also a member of the undefeated Flint Creek Titans 8-man football team, is currently 36th in the Class C state rankings after making just three meets this year. Suthers has been to three meets as well with an illness keeping him out of the two others.
The lone female runner for the Trojans this year is Linnea Petersen. According to DHS Head Coach Darcy Schindler, Petersen has improved in each of the two meets she’s competed in, setting a personal best in each. Petersen is also team manager for the Lady Trojan volleyball team.
Drummond has three meets remaining before they head to the state Cross Country Meet in Missoula October 23. Two of those meets will take place this week in Charlo (Tuesday) and Helena (Thursday).
