Trojan men catch fire, lead sweep of Sheridan

DRUMMOND – It was a different team that took the floor for the Drummond boys Friday night. Oh, the same roster of kids wore the jerseys, but their attitude and play were contagious.

When asked if he could pinpoint one thing that made the ultimate difference for the Trojans, Head Coach Levi Parsons noted things that don’t show up in a stat sheet.

“Our fire. Our intensity. Our wanting to come out and win,” said a happy Parsons. “It’s been off but they were aggressive and into it for all four quarters. They stayed aggressive and were into for all four quarters.”

From the opening tip off Drummond took command of the game against a bigger Panther squad. But between solid mid-range jumpers, quality shots off penetration and some strong rebounding the Trojans opened up a five-point lead after one stanza and 10 at the break.

When the second half started, the Trojans picked right up where they left off, outscoring the visitors by another 10 points to reach their final 20-point margin.

Added Parsons, “Our defense was trying to shut down their inside game. We’re trying to force them to get the ball to outside shooters. It’s something that we’ve been working on and it worked really well tonight.”

It was a defense that gave up just nine outside shots all night, three of which were air balls and only one finding the bottom of the net on a Jon Poirer three pointer.

Senior Wyatt Rigby led all scorers in the game with a season-high 20 points, combining solid post play with hard work on the boards.

Drummond heads off to play Darby Saturday on the road.

Colt Parsons led the Trojan JV to victory with seven points Friday night over the Panthers, while Cooper Bradshaw and Doug Anderson each added six.

Girls Varsity

Drummond 65, Sheridan 26

Before the visiting Panthers had realized they lost the opening tip, the host Lady Trojans had run off a 10-point lead that they would only expand on as they claimed their sixth straight win.

When asked about the streak, DHS Head Coach Nate Bignell responded with, “I only worry about the next game.”

Leading 19-8 after one period, Drummond kept their foot on the gas and their press in high gear as they opened up a 41-20 margin at the break. The defense got even more stifling as the hosts allowed just six second half points while rattling off 24 of their own.

“We’ve got some things we still need to work on, but they played very well,” added Bignell. “They played together and moved the ball and it shows.

Junior Syd Phillips led the Lady Trojans with 18 points while Senior Rylee Hilmo was close behind with 13.
