Trojan men survive late run to complete sweep of Class B Wardens
DRUMMOND – The Drummond Trojans survived a three-minute run in the fourth quarter by visiting Powell County to hold off the Wardens and earn a 60-55 win to begin the new year.
“We were not prepared, coming off of a long break, to play a team that had that kind of high pressure defense, “ said DHS Head Coach Levi Parsons. “We don’t have a way to practice for that get ready for it.
“We should beat that team by 20 or 25 points.”
The two clubs played dead even through halftime, knotted at 23-23. But Drummond opened the third quarter strong and outscored Powell County 18-7 over those eight minutes.
The streak continued into the fourth where with 6:38 to play the Trojans held a 49-34 advantage. But it was then that the local fell into some sloppy play that coincided with the Wardens heating up. By the time the scoreboard clock hit the three-minute mark, Powell County had closed the gap to just four points.
Drummond finally righted its ship and paced the Wardens until it came time to foul. That’s when juniors Brody Rasor and Scott Parke stepped to the foul line and hit a combined 5-of-8 to secure the win.
Colt Parsons returned from his preseason illness to lead Drummond with 17 points, with Parke adding 13. Trey Phillips added nine with Rasor and Ben Bradshaw each chipping in eight.
Bradshaw and Phillips collected seven rebounds each, while Parke dished six assists and Rasor snatched five steals.
The Trojans will head north to Seeley Friday for their next game, returning home Saturday to face Lincoln.
