Trojan runners take 4th at State XC Meet

MISSOULA – Both the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams from Drummond High School captured fourth place at the MHSA Class C State Cross County Meet Saturday in Missoula.
Sophomore Dawson Parke took off early and never looked back as he won the boys 5,000-meter event, held at the University of Montana Golf Course. Parke finished in a time of 16:36.5, more than 23 seconds ahead of second-place Cavan Visser of Manhattan Christian (17:00.1).
Trojan Teammate Josh Yakos also cracked the Top 10, placing seventh in a time of 17:34.1.
Rounding out the Drummond contingent were Maverick Mikolas (Fr., 74th, 21:12.1) and Kai Knoeller (Soph., 80th, 21:33.2).
The Trojans collected 82 points for their efforts. Cascade won the team event with 12 points, Hobson-Moore was second at 27, and Manhattan Christian was third with 37.
Sophomore Natalie Graveley led the Lady Trojans, running to a fourth-place finish in a time of 20:47.9. She was a little over one minute, seven seconds behind race winner Shelbie LaBrie of Whitewater in a time of 19:40.4.
Also running for Drummond were Layla Yates (Soph., 20th, 23:28.0) and CyLeigh Langton (Sr., 30th, 24:10.0)
The Lady Trojans scored 54 team points, tied with third place Manhattan Christian. Roberts won the team competition with 23 points, while West Yellowstone was second at 43.
