Trojan teams sweep Wardens in Deer Lodge
DEER LODGE – The Drummond basketball teams burst into 2024 with a pair of victories over the Wardens of Powell County Friday night.
The Trojans boys started fast and kept their foot on the pedal as they pulled away to a 66-38 win.
“Big win for us tonight coming off a long Christmas break.” Said DHS Head Coach Levi Parsons. “We were a little ragged and unsettled offensively, but we made up for it on the defensive end.
“We were not able to work the ball in as much as I wanted to see. We will hopefully make some quick corrections for tomorrow and hopefully get the ball in the hands of Trey (Phillips) and Dalton (Suthers). That being said, our guards still played a great game.”
Holding a seven point lead at the end of the first quarter, the Trojans really applied the pressure in the second and third in outscoring the host team 34-12.
Senior Brody Rasor led Drummond with 22 points while seven of his teammates found their way into the scoring column as well.
Likewise, the Lady Trojans earned a 10-point win in their opener for the new year.
Lexi Nelson drained a trio of three-pointers on her way to a game-high 15.
The Lady Wardens led 9-4 after one period with Drummond rallying back with a 15-6 second to lead 19-15. Powell County bounced back after halftime to knot the score at 25-25 to start the fourth. But that’s when the Lady Trojans took full control to secure the victory.
Drummond gets its first home game of 2024 Saturday. The girls teams will play Helena Christian while the boys take on Harrison.
