Trojans cage Lynx in D13C opener

HAMILTON – The Drummond Trojans came out fast on both ends of the floor in securing a 59-37 victory over Lincoln in the first round of the District 13C Basketball Tournament in Hamilton.

The win puts them into the Winner’s Bracket semifinal against the winner of the Victor-Seeley Swan game later Thursday afternoon.

The Trojans and Lynx played somewhat even for 3:25 as Drummond led 7-4. But from there the Trojans hit the gas and used a 15-2 run to secure a lead and never look back. Drummond’s lead ballooned to as much as 20 points in the third quarter before the two squads got into a frantic run and gun over the final eight minutes of play.

“We had a slow start and it seemed like a … lack of intensity,” said DHS Head Coach Levi Parsons of Drummond’s first-quarter play. “There just seems to be that lack of intensity every once in a while; and sometimes confidence. … Guys not shooting the ball, over passing, shooting further away from the basket than when they got the ball. We just have to correct that and we’ll be fine.

As play progressed in the opening stanza, the Trojans led but Parsons could sense that lack of intensity and called a pair of quick timeouts to rectify the situation.

“Lincoln’s not a bad ball club. They’re just young and if you aren’t careful they can make a game of it,” added Parsons.

Senior Colt Parsons led Drummond with 18 points with Brody Rasor adding 15. Trey Phillips (9 pts) and Ben Bradshaw (4 pts) each collected 11 rebounds.
