Trojans fall short to Wardens in rematch
DEER LODGE – The Drummond Trojans closed the gap from their previous meeting earlier this month, but it wasn’t enough as the locals came up short to the Wardens, 45-41.
Powell County beat the Trojans 57-39 January 9 in Drummond. But since then the boys in blue and white have taken more strides to improve.
“I feel like that was a game we should have won,” observed DHS Head Coach Levi Parsons. “We just couldn’t get things to go our way. (We) played good defense and got a lot of good shots, but they just wouldn’t fall for us. We started the 4th quarter with only 29 points, and that’s just not enough to win a boys game.
“But we did play them much better. We also struggled with rebounding. Dear lodge had 14 offensive rebounds in the second half. That’s a lot of second chance opportunities for them, and we weren’t getting that on our end.”
The Trojans held a 12-11 edge at the end of the first quarter, but couldn’t keep pace in the second as the Wardens took control to lead 26-20 at intermission. Both teams scored nine in the third period and Drummond rallied for a 12-8 margin in the fourth, but it was too little, too late.
Michael James led the Trojans with 16 points.
Drummond will get a day to regroup before resuming its D13C schedule Saturday when they host St. Regis.
