Trojans fend off Eagles, 64-59
MISSOULA – The Drummond Trojans made it close, a little too close.
Tied 51-all with just under four minutes to play, the Drummond Trojans managed to pull out a 64-59 win on the road at Valley Christian.
The win allows the Trojans to determine their own fate for the postseason, improving them to 7-0 in District 13C play and a game ahead of Lincoln. The two teams, who just played Friday night, will meet again Tuesday in Lincoln with the winner earning the No. 1 in the district’s postseason tournament. Even though a loss would leave both teams even, the Lynx hold the tiebreaker.
Saturday night’s game saw the Trojans lead by as many as 10 points early, but the Eagles were not about to go quietly into that good night. They rallied to even the score using a series of very long three-pointers.
“Biggest take away from tonight is our boys are just completely gassed,” said DHS Boys Head Coach Levi Parsons. “And Valley shot the ball very well from the outside.
“But on a good note, no matter the situation we will not quit!”
Valley kept it close after knotting the game’s score, but a series of fouls kept them at arm’s length. And despite going 6-12 from the charity stripe down the stretch, Drummond held on for the win.
Brody Rasor and Trey Phillips led Drummond in scoring with 20 and 17, respectively. Phillips completed the double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds.
Zeke Glidewell led Valley with 13 points.
Drummond will travel to Lincoln Tuesday in a showdown that will determine the No. 1 and 2 seeds in the District 13C tournament.
